The Concept of Terroir in Medicinal Herb Production
“Terroir” is a term commonly used to describe the unique characteristics that certain foods and beverages (namely, cheese, coffee, tea, and wine) develop as a result of being grown or produced in certain regions of the world. At the heart of the concept of terroir lies the assumption that distinct climate, geography, and soil types and their interactions impart unique gastronomic qualities to plants or animals grown within a particular region, qualities unable to be replicated elsewhere, even when given seemingly identical conditions.
